Non-Hazardous Waste

“Non-Hazardous Waste” is how Tyler Union classifies waste that doesn’t meet requirements to be disposed of at a typical municipal landfill or at our exempt foundry landfill. Non-Hazardous wastes are defined by Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) as solid wastes produced by industrial processes that aren’t hazardous.
Excluding variable wastes such as cupola and inoculation dust, non-hazardous waste primarily consists of clean-up materials, certain dried paint materials, and other non-hazardous items or materials that cannot be recovered or recycled.

Six Important Reminders

  1. Non-hazardous drums and hoppers are throughout the plant. They can be identified by the green “NON-HAZARDOUS WASTE” label. The label should be readable and in good condition.

  2. Ensure drums are kept closed unless adding or removing materials.

  3. Waste containers should be stored under cover or inside

  4. Waste containers should never contain free liquids

  5. Labels can be found in the environmental trailer if needed.

  6. Once a drum of hopper is full, it can be dumped in the non-hazardous roll-off in the environmental area. Once the roll-off is full it was be transported and disposed of at an approved landfill.
